IMA Honors Barb Hendrickson with Karen Renk Award

The Incentive Marketing Association (IMA) honored Barb Hendrickson, CPIM, president, Visible Communication LLC, with the Karen Renk Award during the IMA Summit Awards ceremony last night at the IMA Summit. The prestigious award was established in 2014 to honor Renk, who served as the IMA Executive Director for its first 14 years. Read more

Academic Research in Action: Social Exchange Theory

Social Exchange Theory (SET) evolved in the 1950s from early 20th century behaviorism and reinforcement theory – the notion that people act in response to positive stimuli or to avoid negative stimuli. SET extends positive and negative stimuli to include social recognition (good and bad). It suggests that people will stay in relationships or with organizations if they believe the benefits (recognition and rewards) of doing so exceed the costs. Read more

Corporate Gifts Remain Popular Rewards

While the pandemic has curtailed incentive travel, it has had an opposite effect on gift rewards, according to the Incentive Research Foundation. The use of gifts as a motivational reward skyrocketed by 68 percent in 2020, the organization reported. Read more
